Congrats to MGC and CFF of the Triangle

Bethany, Becca and Lois

Ahhhh…HELLO FRIDAY!  It’s cold outside, but I like it!  And the weekend is gonna be GREAT!  Whoo-hoo!  I’m a bit behind with some blogs, so I’m hoping to get caught up next week.  Yesterday was a very busy Thursday.  Blake and I went to the My Girlfriend’s Closet Boutique EXPANSION Grand Opening Party yesterday after work at 5pm in downtown Apex.  They recently added a HUGE addition to the back of the boutique and it is just perfect!   The space really opens up and add lots of room for some MORE IMPORTANT accessories…SHOES!!!!  I told Blake that was what I wanted for Christmas!  Sorry to say though…it’s not looking to good for me, but a girl can dream right???

A girl can dream!

A girl can dream!

I adore Lois, Ashley and Bethany, plus the rest of the MGC staff at BOTH stores!  They really care about helping women LOOK and FEEL good, not just about selling clothes and stuff in the store.  I’ve had a wonderful marketing relationship with MGC over the past year and I love being part of the MGC family.  The Apex Chamber of Commerce was there at the Expansion Party and did a very nice Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.  Congrats to Lois and all of MGC for being a huge part of retail in both downtown Apex and downtown Cary.  My Karen Kane top came from the store and was a perfect fit for a busy day!  Check out Bethany dressing her baby-bump super cute too!  Looking good, not much longer before her baby arrives!

CFF with Bank of NC

After the MGC ribbon cutting, Blake and I headed over to the UNC Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill for a fundraising event called Top of the Triangle, honoring the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of the Triangle.  Tia Coppus from Bank of NC, invited us to be guests and attend the dinner and ceremony program.  Bank of NC was a proud Table Sponsor for this worthy event.  This was our first time to the UNC Planetarium and our first opportunity to support the CFF of the Triangle.  We had a wonderful time, congrats to those who supported the event and we were very touched by the whole evening.  After the program we attended a STAR SHOW in the Planetarium, it was really neat!  Thanks Tia for the invite!  Happy weekend everyone!

Honored and Respected by these Amazing Women!

Liz of VantageSouth Bank with Becca

Liz of VantageSouth Bank with Becca

Last Friday I had the pleasure of attending The Women of Western Wake Luncheon, hosted by The Umstead Hotel & Spa in Cary, NC.  I was invited to attend by my good friend, Liz Cantino of VantageSouth Bank, who happened to be the Presenting Sponsor for this fantastic event!  I’ve attended this celebration luncheon in the past and it certainly ranks up there pretty high as being a FAVORITE event!  Thanks so much Liz for having me as a guest at your table!  Cary Magazine has been doing this luncheon since 2005 and it honors female movers and shakers in the Cary and Western Wake community.  The event includes networking and lunch, followed by opening remarks and the introduction of the selected female leaders.  Tisha Powell, anchor for ABC Channel 11 News, hosts the candid panel discussion with the honored selected women.

Honoree Panel

The 2013 Cary Magazine Women of Westeran Wake included the following ladies: Joy Ennis, Lynn Minges, DJ Mitsch, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Zarate.  I have some sort of connection-link to each of these women!  Joy is married to Shelton Ennis, who is in my Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club; Lynn Minges is the CEO of the NC Restaurant & Lodging Association and I knew her name as a college student at East Carolina University while studying in the Hospitality Management Program; DJ Mitsch is married to Barry Mitsch with whom I have the pleasure of serving with on the Cary Chamber Board of Directors (I also know DJ from the Honor A Teacher Program they do once a year); Michelle Pfeiffer, Founder of Anna’s Angels spoke to our Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club a few months ago as a guest of Mary Madenspacher (from Life Experiences) and Susan Zarate works at Cary High School in the ESL program, same school where my mother-in-law, Sharon Smith, used to teach Freshman English for 10+ years.

Congrats to Joy Ennis!

Congrats to Joy Ennis!

So I’ve had the honored pleasure of crossing paths with these amazing women!  I enjoyed the panel discussion where the ladies were seated on stage and asked different things about their lives, from their personal success stories to their industry specific challenges. I loved what Joy Ennis has to say when asked the questions “As a working woman…do you think it is possible to have IT ALL”.  Joy answered the question by saying “You have to first define what having IT ALL means to you personally, as IT ALL is not going to be the same to everyone”.

Great insight Joy!  Congrats to all of these fantastic honorees!  Thanks again to Liz Cantino from VantageSouth Bank for allowing me to be her guest and also a thank you to Lois Cozart of My Girlfriend’s Closet for the lovely black dress and strappy platform shoes for the event!  I love stepping out in STYLE with My Girlfriend’s Closet!

Awards to the Community

2013 Cary Community Foundation Grant Awards Breakfast

2013 Cary Community Foundation Grant Awards Breakfast

Last Friday I attended the Cary Community Foundation 2013 Grants Awards Breakfast at the lovely Matthews House in downtown Cary.  The Matthews House is a client of Smith & Smith, CPA, and a very beautiful place for events of all kinds!   I joined the Cary Community Foundation Board earlier this year and it has been a fun opportunity and I’ve met some wonderful community leaders.  I helped serve on the Grants Committee this year and we had over 25 grant applications to read through and compare.  It was so hard…I wanted to give them ALL grant money!  I had tears in my eyes as I read through the grant applications.  We had $7,000 to give out to all of these worthy organizations.

Susan, Elise and Becca

Susan, Elise and Becca

The grant awards were divided into different categories, which made it much easier to judge.  The Cary Community Foundation President, Carla Liberatore, hosted the Grants Awards Breakfast and opened the morning with a welcome.  Sheila Ogle of the Matthews House offered the invocation and then breakfast was served buffet style (and it was sooo yummy and healthy!)  Vice President, Laird Hepburn, gave out all of the grant checks and asked each recipient to speak briefly about their organization and how the money would be used to benefit the good of those in the Cary Community.  Once again, some of the stories that the grant recipients shared really brought tears to your eyes.  It is so rewarding to know that the money is being put to good use for those who really need an extra hand in life.  One of my favorite non-profits, The Corral, was the recipient of grant money that will be used towards after school educational supplies for the girls at The Corral.

Another one of my favorite grant awards was given to Hospice of Wake County for a signature piece of art that will be put in the bereavement garden and will be focused on children and their healing needs.  The morning event was very special and I think everyone left the breakfast feeling blessed and uplifted.   Congrats to all of the grant award recipients!   I enjoyed seeing lots of friends and also would like to thank, Liz Cantino from VantageSouth Bank for joining me as my guest.

I loved seeing my friend Elise Johnson and here is a cute picture of us with Cary Community Foundation Board member, Susan Balke (of DHW CPA).  Thanks to Lois Cozart, owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Apex and downtown Cary for selecting this lovely dress by eci New York for me to wear to the grants awards breakfast.  I had several compliments on it!  Shop at My Girlfriend’s Closet and tell them you read about them in Beccablog.com and get 10% off your purchase!

Shopping is Good for the Soul…and the Economy!

Caroline and Morgan of Vestique

Caroline and Morgan of Vestique

As a woman living in the Triangle area, you can’t deny the fact that there are some really great places to shop around here!  And yes, I totally love it, and yes, I have some of my favorites.  Earlier this week I went by Vestique, a client of Smith & Smith, CPA, to see the owners, Caroline and Morgan.  They celebrated their 3rd Year Anniversary with their store and were hosting a CELEBRATION!  I first learned about Vestique a few years ago when the New & Observer ran a story in the paper about them…two friends from college, with a passion for fashion, starting with just trunk shows at other local stores, then moving to an online store and now, just three short years later, they have four stores (Raleigh, Charlotte, Greenville, SC and Columbia, SC).  Talk about successful!

3 Year Celebration Event

3 Year Celebration Event

We are so proud to have them as clients at Smith & Smith, CPA and Blake really enjoys working with Caroline and Morgan on their growing fashion retail business.  These two girls certainly know how to mix fabulous fashion with affordable style!  The celebration event was PACKED; just take a look at the crowded store in the picture!  I even picked up a few goodies for myself while I was there.  We love supporting our clients by shopping at their stores and using their services.  You can shop at Vestique online (at anytime) or go by one of their stores.  Be sure you get added to their mailing list as they are always running lots of great deals! Congrats to them both!

Peachy Keen Casino Fashion Show

Peachy Keen Casino Fashion Show

Another fun ‘fashion boutique chic’ event was last night.  Peachy Keen hosted their Annual Fall Fashion Show with a ‘Casino’ style theme…let the chips fall where they may!  This was a great opportunity to get my girlfriends together for an evening out.  We had about 12 girlfriends that met at Peachy Keen around 6pm for their social/cocktail hour, followed by an introduction and the fashion show.  Peachy Keen is owned by a local family and they certainly know how to celebrate with vintage style!

Tia, Becca & An

Tia, Becca & An

I really enjoyed all of the delicious food during the cocktail hour (yummy foods from The Meat House, The Big Easy, Sitti and Trader Joe’s) and also all of the games and activities they had going on before the fashion show.  My friend Tia was really serious about the Black Jack table!  There were several sponsors for the event including friends of mine from Nivelli Day Spa, ShopLocalRaleigh, StudioVIBE, and Order in the House.  There was also live entertainment provided by Cole Roe (really good singer and guitarist).  Several of the girls in our group were lucky jackpot prize winners too, congrats to my friend Jamie on winning the AWESOME bag of goodies from Trader Joes!  We really enjoyed the fashion show down the built-in-runway in the store!

Fashion Runway

After the show, we did some shopping and mingling.  Several of my friends bought some great items!  I was happy to have one of my college best friends in town, Lindsey Dishman, so she could go along with us.  She’s on her way to Virginia Beach for a work meeting, so Blake and I always enjoy being her ‘pit stop’ for the night.  Thanks to My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Apex and downtown Cary for the lovely black Karen Kane top I wore to the fashion show.

Lindsey in town!

Lindsey in town!

I wore it with a pair of cheetah print leggings and black boots, just for a fun twist!  My Girlfriend’s Closet was voted “Best Place to Shop for Women’s Clothing” in the 2013 Cary Magazine Maggy Awards and I would have to agree with that!  Thank to Lois and her team for keeping me styled great for all of my networking events.

No plans for the weekend?  Add Vestique, My Girlfriend’s Closet and Peachy Keen to your weekend list, you will be ‘fashionably’ happy that you did!

Playa de Carmen with the Cary Chamber

Cary Chamber Membership Drive Trip

Cary Chamber Membership Drive Trip

Every year in August, the Cary Chamber of Commerce celebrates their Annual Membership Drive with a rewards trip to an exotic Caribbean location.  They award the top sales people with an all-expense paid trip for two.  Believe it or not, this year marked the 7th trip in a row for Blake & me.  I was proud to serve the Cary Chamber as their Vice-Chair for Member Business Services and that included helping lead the Annual Membership Drive.  We were successful at bringing in over 163 new members to the Cary Chamber and over $250,000 in sponsorships & support!  A job well done!  Thanks to the awesome team who worked hard (even up till the last minute) to make it an amazingly successful drive!

Slice of heaven!

Slice of heaven!

Working with the Cary Chamber has been a huge part of my marketing plan for many years, as I am the Director of Marketing for Smith & Smith, CPA.  It gives me the opportunity to reach out local businesses in the area and get them involved.  It also gives us expose for our CPA firm and has led to lots of new business, both on the small business accounting level and on the personal tax return level.  I am a big supporter of the Cary Chamber and always will be!  So this year, Blake and I headed off to the amazing area of Playa de Carmen, just south of Cancun, Mexico.

Dinner with the group

Dinner with the group

We traveled with a group of 12 from the Cary Chamber and stayed at Secrets Silversands Resort.  What a perfect property and thanks so much to Elaine Smith of E-Destinations, Inc for setting up all of the travel arrangements.  The resort was spectacular and the whole 3-night/4-day trip was simple breathtaking, or as one of the others said, “a slice of heaven”.  We spent time on the trip relaxing by the pool and beach, playing pool games, eating (lots and lots of eating), walking the beach, dining & dancing together at night, and simply enjoying all that Mexico has to offer (so much to do and see in such a short time!)

Project Weekly to ENGAGE Rotary!

Project Weekly to ENGAGE Rotary!

I even took along my Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club shirt and wore it while eating by the pool…it’s a challenge that we have going on in our club to ENGAGE yourself in Rotary by wearing a Rotary shirt at least once a week.  The challenge is called “Project Weekly”.  Thanks also to Lois Cozart, owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet (a high-end ladies consignment store in downtown Cary & downtown Apex) for getting me set with some LOVELY dresses & tops for the evening dinners while on the trip!   The Annual Membership Drive is open to ALL Cary Chamber members to participate in… maybe you will join us next year and help grow YOUR business as well as YOUR favorite Chamber of Commerce, the Cary Chamber and win YOURSELF a trip of a lifetime!  Stay tuned for details of next year’s Annual Membership Drive!

Serving as President for Two Years

WBON of Cary Friends

WBON of Cary Friends

This past Wednesday, June 12th, was a bitter-sweet day.  This was my last day of serving as President for WBON of Cary.  I was elected as President back in May of 2011 and ended up serving a two-year term (2011-2012 & 2012-2013).  I’ve had an absolute wonderful time serving & leading this organization, so I am sad to see the term come to end.  But I am also happy to say that I feel like WBON of Cary is being left in great hands with the new Incoming President, Christine Engelbrecht, and her leadership team.  I first got involved with WBON about 7 years ago and have loved the organization ever since.

Becca & Lois of WBON of Cary

Becca & Lois of WBON of Cary

I’ve made some long-lasting friendships, gained lots of new business & clients, heard some fantastic speakers and participated in some really cool community services…all through WBON of Cary.   In the past two years, the group has grown with new members and new businesses.  We’ve changed not only our meeting location but also our monthly meeting day.  And this year WBON of Cary celebrated their 18th birthday!  On Wednesday we celebrated with cupcakes, balloons, horns, Happy Birthday Crowns and of course, the birthday song.  I want to personally thank all of the WBON women who have given their time and served on my board over the past two years.  You all have been wonderful to me and I will always treasure this time & experience.  I will serve WBON of Cary 2013-2014 as Past-President and look forward to still being involved with the group.  I hope to see WBON of Cary grow and thrive for another 18+ years!  And yes,  my adorable green one-shoulder dress is right off the racks at My Girlfriend’s Closet!  Shop there and mention Beccasblog.com for a 10% off total purchase!  Love some MGC!!!!!

An Awesome Exhibit Show at Fearrington Village!

Fearrington Village for Retreats Resources

Fearrington Village for Retreats Resources

So have you ever been to Fearrington Village!?!?  I’ve heard about it numerous times but had never had the privilege to visit the property.  All of that changed last week when I joined my good friend, Christine Johnson of First Point Management Resources to attend the Retreats Resources 2013 Showcase Roadshow. Christine invited me because she knows that I have had experience in helping to plan Rotary District Conferences and Cary Chamber incentive trips over the past few years.  The NC Triangle Event was held at Fearrington Village, located in Pittsboro, NC.  I had a wonderful time at the event with Christine and the others from her office.    The event started with a Welcome Social at The Roost where we enjoyed live music and a fresh array of local cured meats and local cheeses, plus sweet desserts.  From there we moved to The Barn for the vendor & meeting planner showcase.  I tagged along with Christine & her crew as we talked to different luxury hotels & travel destinations.  A big part of Christine’s job (and First Point Resources) is to book travel & meeting conferences for their association clients.

Ferrington Village with Christine, Elaine Smith, Juan and Becca

Ferrington Village with Christine, Elaine Smith, Juan and Becca

My undergraduate degree from ECU was in Hospitality Management, so I also enjoy these events very much. There was a silent auction during the vendor expo and all of the proceeds were given to Water To Wine and go towards supporting their mission of providing clean water to people around the world.  The next part of the evening event at Fearrington Village was my favorite…a HUGE & BEAUTIFUL hot air balloon was inflated on the farm and balloon rides (small ones) were offered to all attendees.  I didn’t go up in the balloon, but I had a BLAST watching and taking pictures!  During the balloon viewing/rides, I ran into my friend, Elaine SmithOwner of E-Destinations.  Elaine has been a friend through the Cary Chamber and has planned many of the Cary Chamber Membership Drive Reward Trips over the past few years.  She’s an expert at group travel destinations!

My "winning" Belties picture!

My “winning” Belties picture!

Shortly after the balloon rides we were escorted to dinner at The Garden Terrace, a totally beautiful indoor/outdoor area at Fearrington Village.  Dinner was BEYOND FANTASTIC! Grand Master Chef, Colin Bedford, created the menu that included: crab salad with Avocado Puree, Beef Wellington, Bacon Creamed Corn, Seared Halibut and MORE!  I had the pleasure of meeting Juan Cure, who serves Fearrington Village as their Travel Industry Sales leader during the event.  Juan and his team are very proud of the Fearrington Village Property and gladly answered all of our questions.  We had a chance to see the Belties (the cows on the property) and even took a few pictures for their Facebook Beltie Social Media Contest (too bad I didn’t get my picture submitted in time!  I think it was a winner!) I’d like to say THANK YOU to Suzanne Dawson from The Fairmont in Washington, DC as she was so friendly and very helpful with answering travel questions about DC & the surrounding area.  I think a family trip to DC to see all of the museums is in our near future!  Thanks also to Christine for inviting me to go and as always…to Lois Cozart, Owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet (located in downtown Cary & downtown Apex) for styling me in this unique Joseph Ribkoff dress.  It was perfect for Fearrington Village!  Mentioned Beccasblog.com at My Girlfriend’s Closet and get 10% off your total purchase!

Small business accounting and 8-year Anniversary

Blake with Scott teaching the small business accounting NxLevel Class

Blake with Scott teaching the small business accounting NxLevel Class

Yesterday Blake and I had the pleasure of teaching a small business accounting class with the NxLevel Business Workshop
for Entrepreneurs, which is sponsored by the Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC) by NC State University and UNC-Chapel Hill.  This class is designed to help entrepreneurs learn the skills needed to create, develop and strengthen successful business ventures.  We were invited to speak on small business accounting by longtime professional business friend, Pete Donahue, who serves as a Business Counselor to the SBTDC.

Small Business Accounting lecture

Small Business Accounting lecture

Blake’s small business accounting presentation covered the basics of what every small business owner needs to know and the relationship they should have with their CPA.  Blake went over some of the small business accounting most common concerns and also answered questions from both the class participates as well as the Business Counselors teaching the course, Scott Rockafellow and Mark McKnight.  This is a wonderful opportunity for any small business owner seeking to build their business and those who want to make a solid plan for being successful.  We look forward to working with the NxLevel Business Workshop for Entrepreneurs again and helping business owners understand small business accounting.

Lunch at the Big Easy

Lunch at the Big Easy

After the presentation, Blake and I had a delicious quick lunch at The Big Easy in downtown Raleigh.  We celebrated our 8-year wedding anniversary!  We love eating at The Big Easy.  We discovered them a few years ago while we were downtown Raleigh at a festival.  They have a really good New Orleans inspired menu.  I had a Greek salad with blackened shrimp and Blake had a really good hamburger.  They have a great venue in Raleigh and have lots of live music through the week.  We’ve been there to hear bands play before. There is a Big Easy in Cary now and we have a gift card to use there in a few weeks with some friends.

Happy 8-Year Anniversary!

Happy 8-Year Anniversary!

We continued celebrating our anniversary with dinner last night at Daniel’s Pizza and Pasta in Apex. I had a gift card for Daniels that I had won through the Cary Chamber, so I was really excited to take Blake there for dinner!  We shared an appetizer and then also shared two entrée meals of the Chicken Parmesan and Cajun Shrimp Pasta.  The staff at Daniel’s was so friendly and really took good care of us.  They knew it was our anniversary, so for dessert they treated to us a huge tiramisu dessert that even had “Happy Anniversary” written around the edge with chocolate sauce!  We had a great time at dinner laughing and talking about our lives over the past 8 years (we’ve actually been together for 10 years).  After dinner we did a few errands before we picked up the boys.  Daniel's on Urbanspoon

Thanks Daniel's!

Thanks Daniel’s!

Thanks so much to Lois of My Girlfriend’s Closet for the lovely one-shoulder navy blue Boston Proper beaded embroidered shirt.  I had lots of compliments on it as the beaded work was so unique!  Be sure to mention Beccasblog the next time you are shopping at My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Apex & downtown Cary and get 10% off your purchase!  So I can proudly say that I spent my anniversary with Blake covering the importance of small business accounting and celebrating at special restaurants!

Networking and Helping Others

Shopping & Networking at TLPL

Shopping & Networking at TLPL

Last week was the May meeting for the Triangle Ladies Power Luncheon.  The ‘Hostess of Ceremonies”, Carrie Peele, was off visiting her new grandbaby in California, so I was asked to fill in for her (but one can never really do as great of a job as Carrie does!)  The speaker was Christine Hilt, President of CLH Design.  She shared with the group of ladies her experience in working in a male dominated field and what it has taken her to overcome some obstacles along the way.

Terry and Renee

Terry and Renee

She gave some staggering statistics about women in landscaping design (there aren’t very many of them) and what different universities are doing to encourage more women to enter the field.  I enjoyed hearing Christine speak and love the fact that she is also a fellow Rotarian.  She has earned numerous certificates and awards for her work and leadership in the sustainability and LEED rating systems.  Thanks for coming to share with us Christine!  I was pleased to have my guests: Heidi Harris, Eleni Steadman and Frida Darmawan.

Susan and Myra

I was sitting with the Blue Diamond Limo table (in representation of Carrie) so my table guests included: Christine Hilt, Carrie Burr, Linda Craft, Kim Crump, Judy Fourie, and Dallas Bonavita.  The Breast Cancer ‘SHE-RO’ for Pretty In Pink this month was Terry Buchanan.   She was recommended by my good friend (and a good friend to many), Renee Groom.  Terry was picked up for the luncheon in the Blue Diamond Pink Limo and was joined at lunch by her husband, two of her three sons, and several other guests.  Terry came to the podium to share her breast cancer story and gave thanks to all of those who have supported her along the way.

It was great to see so many friends and to also make some new friends!  I met Susan Crews, a Body Transformation Coach for her company called “Sparkle & Shine”.  Her business card is really neat and was designed by TLPL Sponsor, Myra Ray, owner of MyrayGraphix.comSmith & Smith, CPA has been a proud sponsor of the TLPL for several years and enjoys the relationship very much!  Thanks to Carrie, Linda Sellers, Linda Brown, Becky, and the other Blue Diamond Limo staff that help make this a successful event each month!  TLPL also did a purse & shoe collection this month for the group, Dress for Success Triangle ChapterCarrie Burr, TLPl sponsor, headed up this project.  Thanks to all who brought items in!  Thanks also to Lois Cozart, owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet for the lovely summer black dress I wore to the luncheon.

Dallas, Susan & Becca at Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club meeting

I’d also like to give a shout-out to Dallas Bonavita, Executive Director of a non-profit group called, Note in the Pocket.  Susan Pruskin and I met Dallas a few months ago when she was brand new to the TLPL.  Susan immediately booked her for a presentation at our Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club and set-up a clothing drive for our club members.  Our mission was to collect gently used children’s clothing and money for the purchase of new underwear (it’s staggering and saddening to know how many kids in Wake County don’t have underwear for school).

Dallas presented to our Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club at our meeting last week and took with her all of our donations!  What we collected will help so many at-risk and needy families/kids in our community.  Note in the Pocket is holding a Volunteer Fair on Saturday, June 1st from 10am-1pm and is also hosting a Student Volunteer Leadership Program this summer.  You can find out more on their website.  What a great group for young adults to be part of and get some volunteer hours!  Thanks Dallas and thank Susan for such a great program!

I guess you are asking yourself…”Who is this Mickey and Matthew” that she is blogging about?  Well, I will tell you!  Mickey and Matthew represent a large part of our Mother’s Day weekend (last weekend).  Blake and I traveled to Orlando, Florida, the home of Mickey Mouse (hence the Mickey part) for a family wedding.  My lovely cousin, Katie, married her handsome fiancée, Chad, at the Disney Wedding Pavilion and had their reception at the Grand Floridian Convention Center.  The wedding was beautiful and we had a wonderful (kid-free) long-weekend visit.  Katie’s older sister, Kyle, also got married at the Disney Wedding Pavilion about 6 years ago and we were able to attend that beautiful wedding as well.  So certainly one of the many benefits of working in a family business is being able to adjust your schedule so you can have a day of work-vacation to travel and celebrate those special occasions in life.

Blake thought he was pretty snazzy posing with lovely car that was parked outside of the Grand Floridian Hotel…I think Blake was trying to channel his inner “Great Gatsby” because he knows the movie recently came out and that I am DYING to see it sooner than later!  I think he looks really sharp and really nice!  We really enjoyed our mini-vacation; we stayed at the All Stars Movies Resort and attended the La Nouba Circque Du Soleil show at Downtown Disney.  That night we had dinner at Wolf Gang Puck and spent four hours at Disney Quest (like a giant Dave & Busters indoor arcade).

We flew Southwest and had a wonderful experience with them (as always). Thanks so much to my Uncle Kevin and Aunt Debbie for helping us with our travel arrangements for the wedding!  Thank you also to Lois Cozart from My Girlfriend’s Closet who helped me select a lovely floral one-shoulder Ralph Lauren dress for the Circque Du Soleil show and a fantastic bright orange/pink belted sundress for the wedding!  Her store is the best place to shop for summer wedding and other great events!  Her prices are hard to beat and their brands are endless!  Thanks Lois!

And now let me tell you about Matthew…while we were gone to Orlando, my parents graciously came and kept the boys for us.  Since Sunday was Mother’s Day, my father-in-law, Bob, invited my parents and the boys to join him and Sharon at The Matthew’s House (client for Smith & Smith, CPA) for their Mother’s Day Brunch.  My parents were thrilled with the invite (they love Bob & Sharon just like I do) so they practiced all weekend with the boys about sitting nicely and using their manners, because The Matthew’s House is a very nice place!

The scrumptious menu included asparagus, pork lion, scalloped potatoes, Swiss chicken cutlets and several other delicious items.  Our parents really enjoyed the brunch together and Sheila Ogle was even kind enough to give them a tour of the house.  The Matthew’s House is a wonderful place to have wedding as well as corporate events, charity auctions, networking meetings and more!  Their tagline is “When You Have the Need to Feed…remember The Matthew’s House” as they also offer off-site catering (we had a delicious catered meal from them during ‘tax season 2013’ and it was sooooooo good!)

So HEY!  It’s the WEEKEND!  Do something FUN!
