Support Local!

Happy Friday!  Ahhhh…only 2 ½ weeks until April 15th!  Can you hear the stress in my voice…oh wait, maybe that is the excitement as April 15th means that our Tax Celebration Dinner at The Angus Barn is the next night on April 16th!  Anyway, just a few fun things to share as we welcome in the weekend!

Brownies at Life Experiences

Brownies at Life Experiences

I signed-up to take two trays of brownies to the Oak Grove Elementary School Ollie Fest PTA Fundraiser this coming weekend for the Cake Walk, and since I’m not much of a baker, I called on my good friends at Life Experiences for help!  They have a kitchen department and make the BEST brownies EVER!  Here I am with some of my sweet friends in the bakery picking up my order.  Only $10 per tray and it goes to a great cause!  Thanks to Mary Madenspacher, Executive Director, and close friend of mine in Rotary for helping me with the order.  Life Experiences can help cater your next luncheon or business event too (box lunch, cookie trays, etc.).

SLR at The Chocolate Boutique

SLR at The Chocolate Boutique

Before I went to Life Experiences, I stopped by The Chocolate Boutique in Morrisville for the ShopLocalRaleigh Friday Morning Social.  It is located in Park West, love that shopping center and the place was full of chocolate and other local business owners.   I got there just in time for the great networking and of course…chocolate tasting!!!!!  Yummy!

New friends at SLR

New friends at SLR

Jennifer Martin, the Executive Director for ShopLocalRaleigh, took a few minutes to talk and updated everyone on the great upcoming SLR events, such as Brewgaloo that is on Saturday, April 26th.  Another big issue for SLR is the Raleigh sign-ordnance that is really impacting the small business owners in Raleigh, Jennifer is VERY passionate about helping fight for the small business owners involved with this issue!  Jonathan Menard, also known as Jonny Popcorn, was there at the social and quickly became a fan-favorite.

Carolina Popcorn Shoppe

Carolina Popcorn Shoppe

He owns Carolina Popcorn Shoppe with his family and they had free samples (DOUBLE YUMMY!!!)  Here I am in a picture with Johathan and Elizabeth,  who is a CPA, and who knows the stress of April 15th deadline…so popcorn was a nice treat for us all!  I love SLR and it was fun to see so many friends (Mica, Kim, Gregg, Donna, and more!)  Thanks to Lois Cozart, Owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet for dressing me in the colorful dress by Ellison.  MGC has TONS of great spring wear and sandals out now and also something new in the store that I will mention in my blog next week!  Stay tuned!!!!!

Tax season is in full swing!  We are accepting new clients and the phones & emails are very busy with inquires for service and appointments are coming in strong.  Thank you so much!  We love working with all of our clients and we appreciate your business!  Thank you for referring to Smith & Smith, CPA!

Welcome back Triangle Ladies and a Piece of Savannah!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch…the FIRST one for 2014!

Becca with Sharon Decker

Becca with Sharon Decker

This is an event that Smith & Smith, CPA is proud to sponsor and has recently moved to quarterly meetings for the 2014 year.  I had missed so many of my friends from this group (our last meeting was in November 2013!) Smith & Smith, CPA has been sponsoring this event for many years and I always enjoy having an expo table and being able to bring along 3 guests (perks of being a Gold Sponsor!!)  I always try to take along a client to share my expo booth space this time I took BJ Davis.  BJ is a Leadership Training and Team Development Coach.  She was very engaging with the attendees and I enjoyed her being there so much! I also took along Amy Gretenstein and Tia Coppus.  We had a wonderful lunch table (hosted by Smith & Smith, CPA) and the speaker was Sharon Allred Decker, NC Secretary for the Department of Commerce.  I honesty can say that she ranks up there with being on of my TOP FAVORITE speakers in the history of Triangle Ladies Power Lunch!  I didn’t really know what to expect from her talk but I found myself hanging on to every word!

Winner of the flowers from Coach BJ Davis!

Winner of the flowers from Coach BJ Davis!

She gave FOUR Tips that she has learned in her life: 1) You need to be open to Possibilities!  2) Be Still…we are killing ourselves with all of our ‘busyness’ and we need to stop saying YES to everything 3) Be Thankful…keep a “Thankful Journal” and write 4 things in it each night and 4) Quit Trying to Live a Balanced Life…life is a DANCE…so stop trying to balance and learn to dance.  Thanks so much to TLPL host, Carrie Peele and her team at Blue Diamond Limo for bringing Sharon Decker to speak and for a FANTASTIC TLPL 2014 Kick-off!  Next meeting is in June!  Thanks to Lois Cozart, owner at My Girlfriend’s Closet for dressing me in this lovely dress from the Cary store location!  It’s a dress from Talbots and I got tons of great compliments!  MGC is stocking up on great spring & summer dresses!  Shop there and mention Beccasblog to get 10% off your entire purchase!

Out on the town in Savannah

Out on the town in Savannah

I was able to sneak-off last weekend to Savannah with some of my girlfriends to celebrate a very special 40th birthday!  We had a total blast, loved Savannah and their St. Patty’s Celebration has been on my to-do list for years!  Thanks to my girls for a super fun weekend and cheers to all of the great people we met, the awesome laughs we shared and the memories & experiences that will keeping us talking for YEARS to come!  Certainly a trip to always remember for many reasons! I hope to go back again soon!

Just an FYI…less then 4 weeks to go before April 15th!

A Shoe Auction & Feast of Fashion Fit for Cinderella

I don’t get to be out of the office very often during this time of the year, Tax Season!  I’m at the office as much as I can to help with clients coming in and out and helping manage the phones and emails.

The Magic of Shoes with WBON Friends

The Magic of Shoes with WBON Friends

But today was an exception and I was out of the office for several hours to help with the Annual WBON of Cary Charity Fashion Show.  This year the event was called “The Magic of Shoes…A Shoe Auction & Feast of Fashion Fit for Cinderella”.  The event was held at Bien Venue in Apex, NC (same place as the WBON Murder Mystery last year) except this time it was a luncheon event.  The fashion event had over 50 pairs of shoes that were up for silent raffle and some lovely jewelry too!

Benefiting A Note in the Pocket

Benefiting A Note in the Pocket

I bought a roll of 25 tickets and ended up winning 3 pairs of shoes (two of them from My Girlfriend’s Closet).  YEA ME!   All of the proceeds from this event went to benefit the charity called A Note in the Pocket.  This worthy organization provides clothing to impoverished and homeless children in Wake County.  I first met A Note in the Pocket several years ago through the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch.  Belk of Cary Towne Center provided all of the fabulous fashions for the fashion show!

I won 3 pairs of shoes!

I won 3 pairs of shoes!

Thanks so much to Marissa Basla, Manager of Belk at Cary Towne Center, for allowing Belk to be involved.  I met Marissa back in the fall through a mutual friend and WBON was very lucky to get to work with Belk this year!   All of the models for the fashion show had a great time picking out their outfits and Belk was VERY easy to work with and their items were perfect for women (and men) of all shoes, sizes, personal taste, and budgets!  I was in charge getting the clothing too and from the store and also helped with the ‘back of the house’ part of the fashion show (thanks also to Dr. Heather Sefried of Nirvelli Day Spa and Katherine Green for also helping in the back with all the models and flow of the show).  We were so happy to have Marissa attend the event too!

wbon of caryJewelry for the models was provided by Park Lane, shoes by My Girlfriend’s Closet, and bags by Miche.  We also had several other women involved with WBON who helped to do hair and make-up for all of the models.  One of the biggest raffle items for the afternoon was a 2-hour magic show provided by The Amazing Magic of Wayne Anderson! I think it was a very successful event and everyone had a great time!  I also hope we raised lots of money for A Note in the Pocket!  And I must give kudos to Catherine Katz and Elisa Roels who helped to organize the whole show…from start to finish they both did an excellent job!!!!  Thanks to Lois Cozart of My Girlfriend’s Closet for dressing me in the striped sweater, red jewelry and hot red high heels by Steve Madden!  They are having a big sale to make room for all of their beautiful spring & summer outfits!  Stop by to see them and mention Beccasblog.com to get 10% off your purchase!

ShopLocalRaleigh 4th Friday Social

Happy COLD Friday!!!  January is going by fast, only one more Friday left in January 2014.  Today was the 4th Friday Social for ShopLocalRaleigh.

4th Friday ShopLocalRaleigh Social

4th Friday ShopLocalRaleigh Social

We all gathered this morning at Joint Venture Jewelry & Peachy Keen in Cary, NC.  The 4th Friday Social is a monthly event that is offered by ShopLocalRaleigh to all members and guests.  Each month it rotates around to different locations in the Triangle Area.  The event is from 8:30am-10:00am and involves some FRESH coffee, light refreshments and lots of great networking.

Mica, Laura, Becca and Robin

Mica, Laura, Becca and Robin

I arrived shortly after 9:00am this morning…having to get two boys to two different schools and then drive across town was a time crunch for me, but I made it work and got there in time for the large circle networking.  The large circle networking is everyone’s favorite part; we form a large circle and then go around one at a time to meet each other.  Jennifer Martin, the Executive Director for ShopLocalRaleigh, always gives us a question or topic to discuss during our introductions.

Donna, Karly and Kim

Donna, Karly and Kim

This morning she asked us to identify an issue or concern that we are seeking help with as small business owners.  We had lots of new first time visitors at the social this morning, which is always great, as we want ShopLocalRaleigh to keep growing and growing and growing!  I had a nice conversation with Gary Chvatal, owner of Flicko’s Video Workshops in Cary; it was his first time at a ShopLocalRaleigh event.  The more people we can get to shop local and spend local, the better off we will all be as small business owners.

Yummy Cupcake!

Yummy Cupcake!

I enjoyed meeting some of the new members/visitors and really liked the cupcakes that were made by Laura McMillan, Baker & Decorator of Confectionate Cakes.  Jen Hankin, Director of Communication for Peachy Keen & Joint Venture Jewelry, spoke to the group about their Dinner & Diamonds Facebook Contest.  The contest features submitted photos from Facebook followers who are defining “What is Love”, they are then asked to get their friends to vote (you can vote daily) for their photos.  What’s a stake you ask…wellll…. winner with the MOST votes gets Diamond Stud Earrings from Joint Venture Jewelry and Dinner for TWO ($150 value) at Oro Restaurant in Raleigh!  Blake and I have submitted a picture, so I would REALLY appreciate your votes!  You can vote once a day between NOW and Feb 11th.   They are also giving away prizes for Cutest Couple and Best Definition of “What is Love”.

"What is Love" for Dinner & Diamonds

“What is Love” for Dinner & Diamonds

They will award the winners at their Valentine’s Day Panic Party on Wednesday, February 12th.  Great idea and being a member of ShopLocalRaleigh gives JVJ and PK a fantastic opportunity to promote and grow not only the contest…but also their business!  Join us for the NEXT 4th Friday ShopLocalRaleigh social at Ray Price Harley-Davidson in downtown Raleigh (February 28th).  I got a super cute shoulder bag at Peachy Keen during the social, one that I’ve had my eye on for a while, and I can’t wait to carry it!

Thanks to My Girlfriend’s Closet of downtown Cary and downtown Apex for styling me on this COLD Friday morning in the colorful BCBG Maxazria wrap dress and the Stella & Stevie San Francisco leopard faux-fur jacket (wearing in the contest picture).  They are having their WINTER Clearance Sale right now!  Stop by to see them!

Corporate Games, First Year Teachers and Women’s Giving

Alisa & Becca

Alisa & Becca

In late 2013 we started hearing this buzz about the Corporate Games of Cary…it was being talked about at the Cary Chamber Business Expo and also at other Cary Chamber events.  Last week I had the opportunity to learn more about it.  Fit & Able Productions, Inc. is producing the event along with several other community businesses and sponsors.  The owners of Fit & Able, Alisa & Travis Wright Colopy (mother and son team) hosted a Lunch & Learn last week at the Cary Chamber called “Regifting Your Fitness”.  During the luncheon Alisa talked about the importance of being physically fit and healthy and how the Corporate Games of Cary were going to serve as a yearlong mini-Olympics for Cary businesses, families and friends. I’m looking forward to having Smith & Smith, CPA participate!

Cary Chamber Education Committee

Cary Chamber Education Committee

The Cary Chamber also hosted the monthly Education Committee Meeting last week.  I used to be a regular attendee on this committee but then had a conflict each month with another group, so I’ve missed being able to attend the Education Committee.  Last week lunch was sponsored by Huntington Learning Center and we had food from Patrick Jane’s Gourmet Pizza Bar.  During the meeting we created an assembly line to assemble the First Year Teacher Awards for Western Wake County teachers.  These awards (an apple etched inside of a glass tower) are given each year on behalf of the Cary Chamber and the Education Committee to FIRST YEAR teachers…not first year in their school, but FIRST YEAR ever!

First Year Teacher Awards

First Year Teacher Awards

We know that teaching is a tough, challenging but rewarding profession and this is our small way of encouraging them and saying thank you.  Kuddos to Allison Wrenn, Director of Finance & Education for the Cary Chamber on having all of the gift bag items so organized and ready to be assembled.  It went really well!  We then divided up all of the awards/gifts (there were over 80 bags!!!) and delivered them to all of the schools.  I took the gifts to Farmington Woods Elementary school, very close to our office.  Congrats to all of those teachers!

Cary Women's Giving Network

Cary Women’s Giving Network

And a very-late-mention of the Cary Women’s Giving Network…we had a post-holiday social on December 27th that was hosted by Virginia Anthony & Sheila Ogle at Sheila’s house in downtown Cary.   I am so proud to be part of this wonderful group of women and love the work that we do in the community.  It was a very nice event and I’m looking forward to a fun and busy year with the Women’s Giving Network in 2014.  Would love to have you join us if interested!   It’s about local women operating together to bring resources to the needy in our community.

Thanks as always to My Girlfriend’s Closet of downtown Cary and downtown Apex for dressing me with such style! I got this fur vest there for Christmas and the yellow silk embezzled top was a selection by Lois.  Both stores still have tons of great winter items…be sure to ask about their fleece leggings and mention Beccasblog.com for a 10% discount.

Our Smith & Smith, CPA firm in Cary is growing and we are excited about 2014.  We are taking on new clients and we’d love to work with YOU!  Please check out our website for more information  http://www.smithandsmithcpa.com  We are never too busy to help a small business owner with their accounting/tax needs.  We welcome referrals!  Thank you to all of our amazing referral partners and community supporters!  Here’s to a GREAT 2014!

Healthy Cooking and Healthy Shopping!

So did you have a good New Year 2014?  I hope you did.  Blake & I rang in the New Year with friends at the Carolina Hurricanes hockey game, it was a FANTASTIC game, came down to the very end and the Canes won! YEA!

Louis with Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club

Louis with Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club

Speaking of winning, Blake has really been a winner in the weight-loss area.  He has lost nearly 50 pounds and is still going!  He started in September 2013 and has been working with Louis Vitiello.  Louis is an Integrative Health Coach and Blake met Louis through his BNI group.  Blake hired Louis after having a free consultation with him and the results have been wonderful!  I had Louis come and speak at our Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club meeting last week, held at Tom Yum Thai (MacGregor Country Club is closed for 2 weeks in January).

Raw Pad Thai

Raw Pad Thai

Louis did a fantastic job talking about our Rotary Club, he shared his personal story of loosing over 200 lbs himself…all as a result of a 4-letter word…FEAR.  I found his story to be very inspiring, not only to those who want to loose weight, but also to those who are seeking to live a healthier lifestyle and overcome the FEAR in their lives.  Louis also worked with Blake over the holiday season on some good healthy cooking options.  Louis does this service with his clients and it was one of the many reasons that Blake hired him; he really does invest in your whole life, not just the part about loosing weight.  Check out this Raw Pad Thai that Louis taught Blake to make!  He cooked this dish (picture of my plate) for my family during Christmas!  Yes, it taste just as delicious as it looks!  Stay tuned to see how much more weight Blake looses as a result of working with Louis and I’ll share some more food along the way too.

Juicy Couture shoes at My Girlfriend's Closet

Do you have any money left over from the holidays?? Well, hopefully you do and I know JUST THE PLACE where you should spend it!  My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Cary and downtown Apex has a HUGE supply of BRAND NEW Juicy Couture Shoes!  They are selling them for ¼ of the original price and have a nice selection of these lovely shoes, however, they are only in size 6 ½ and 9 ½.  So if that is your size, then you are in luck!  Go check them out and tell them you read Beccasblog.com and get 10% off your purchase!

Holiday Cheer for All!

Kevin & Shelli Christmas Party 2013

Kevin & Shelli Christmas Party 2013

Last night Blake and I attended a really fun Christmas Party at the lovely Matthews House in downtown Cary.  The party was hosted by Kevin and Shelli Dallacqua.   Shelli is the Founder & President of Shelten Media, a full-service social media marketing company.  Kevin is the owner of a local car & auto body shop.  I met Shelli a few years ago through the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch and we’ve been friends ever since.  This was the first year for this Christmas party and we loved being included.

Funny Christmas photo fun

Funny Christmas photo fun

Shelli had lots of fun things going on in the room, from a 50/50 raffle (winner got half the money that ended up being $185!!) plus raffle tickets for over 15 auction items!  There was a full buffet for a sit-down dinner, plus a fun area of crazy Christmas/holiday photo props.  I had some fun picture taken with my friend Tammy Cordes and her hubby, Craig.  Blake and I bought several raffle tickets but ended the night not being a lucky winner, which we were okay with…but I really wanted those earrings that were donated by Kim Oestereich Smith & Smith, CPA donated one of our tailgate chairs and coolers.  There was even a 5 day cruise on the raffle table!  Our friend Suzy Saver and her hubby won the cruise!

Fun with friends

Fun with friends

It was fun to see so many wonderful friends, networking partners, business leaders and community supporters all together!  Shelli and Kevin were very gracious hosts and took time to greet everyone and kept the party moving.  Beth Wood, NC State Auditor, gave the invocation before dinner.  The food was really delicious, the Matthews House has a fabulous chef!!!  There was a huge dessert buffet and also a wine bar.  After dinner, Shelli introduced all of her staff and interns.

Shelten Media staff

She then took time to share her story of going to NCSU as a non-traditional student, being selected for an internship at Oxford, winning scholarships to attend, becoming introduced & exposed to social media while in Europe, coming back to USA and traveling across country working on a projects, and best of all, she shared about the encouragement and support she got along the way from one of her college professors.  She ended up giving him an award titled the “Shelten Media #WorldChanger Award”.   Our friends Heather and Dave Sefried ended up winning the 50/50 raffle at the end of the night (yea!!!).

TLPL Friends

The best part of the whole evening was the military family that was selected and being showered with Christmas presents that were brought by all of the guests.  Shelli had found this family through our friend Kathleen Volandt, President of Auroros. That was such a special part of the party to see all of the presents around the Christmas tree.  Shelli and Kevin gave each attendee two bottles of wine at the end of the night that had custom labels on them from Chatham Hill Winery.  Thanks again to Shelli and Kevin for being such gracious hosts and kind friends to all of us.  We enjoyed the night so much!  Thanks to Lois Cozart of My Girlfriends Closet for the beautiful black cocktail dress that I wore for the evening.  My Girlfriend’s Closet has a great selection of Holiday cocktail dresses and beautiful accessories!  Stop by there to shop and tell them that you read Beccasblog.com and get a 10% off discount on your next purchase.

ShopLocalRaleigh Contest for a Moped!

Kate of Frill won!

Kate of Frill won!

Last Tuesday was a really fun event for ShopLocalRaleigh.  They hosted their #WheresWalter Instagram party at Lucky B’s in downtown Raleigh.  This contest had been going on since mid-November and it included finding a Christmas-themed Sir Walter cut-out that was hidden all over Wake County in many ShopLocalRaleigh member stores & offices.  We even had one in our Smith & Smith, CPA office.  The party at Lucky B’s included food & drinks, plus a ton of door prizes and the grand prize…a customized ShopLocalRaleigh moped!!!  I was able to get 5 entries for the contest from tagging Sir Walter around the area, but atlas…it wasn’t enough!

Becca, Jennifer and Jen

One of our clients, Kate Steadman, Owner & Lead Designer at Frill (a custom clothing company with charity in mind) ended up being the grand prize winner and took the ShopLocalRaleigh moped home!  Congrats Kate!  She was really excited and had over 35 entries in the contest!  I had a fun time at the party and enjoyed meeting some new ShopLocalRaleigh members and friends.   I had a chance to go by Peachy Keen and Joint Venture Jewelry during the contest and get a picture for the contest of Sir Walter there.  Jen Hankin, Director of Communications at Peachy Keen and Joint Venture Jewelry also came to the party at Lucky B’s.  Thanks to Jennifer Martin, Executive Director at ShopLocalRaleigh for all of her hard work and hours on the contest, prizes and social.  It was fun, like all ShopLocalRaleigh events, and I look forward to the next one!  Thanks also to My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Cary and downtown Apex for this fabulous purple Kate Spade coat!  It’s in super great condition and is ready for a new owner!  Contact My Girlfriend’s Closet about making this coat YOURS!  It sure would make a fantastic Christmas present for someone…maybe you????

WBON ladies

WBON ladies

WBON of Cary had their December meeting last week at Prestonwood Country Club.  This is the last WBON meeting for the 2013 year.  There was lots of holiday spirit at the meeting and we played a fun mixer game before the meeting that qualified you for the door prizes.  Congrats to WBON sponsor and Smith & Smith, CPA client, Christine Hall, owner of CMH College Consulting for her business success.  So far all of her students who have applied for colleges have heard back with positive news and her student clients are also really starting to rack in the scholarship money!!!  That is excellent!  Great work Christine!  Thanks to Lois Cozart, owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet for this lovely black & white Elie Tahari dress.  Right off the rack at their downtown Cary store!  Great place to shop for holiday gifts!

Art Ball for Cary Visual Art

Art Ball 2013 with Grace & Jim Wang

Art Ball 2013 with Grace & Jim Wang

Over the weekend Blake and I had the pleasure of attending the Art Ball 2013.  This prestigious event is held at Prestonwood Country Club and supports Cary Visual Art.   Cary Visual Art seeks to ensure that the Arts are ALIVE and well in our community.  My good friend, Grace Li Wang and Gifts with a Heart Gallery, hosted the formal evening event.  Grace is a famous artist and several of her own pieces of work were on display for silent auction.  Another good friend of mine, Claire Smith, had invited us to attend the Art Ball 2013 nearly a year ago; so to say we had been looking forward to this event for a while would be an understatement!  We were greeted with a glass of champagne when w arrived and viewed the art that was on silent auction in Salon C.

Live Art Auction

Live Art Auction

We really liked several of the pieces and enjoyed reading about the artists.  Dinner was served around 7:30pm and Prestonwood had put together a fantastic variety of food stations and an assortment of delicious foods.  There was a live band with music by The John Barker Project and Lisa York hosted the live art auction part.  The event also featured a live painting by artist Dan Nelson. The Art Ball offers a diverse collection of work from artists known across the state and nationally.  The auction featured sculptures, jewelry, pottery, wearable art and a large collection of painting, photography and mixed media.  Blake and I had a fantastic time at the event and thank you so much to Claire for inviting us to attend!  Thank you also to Lois Cozart, Owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Cary and downtown Apex for selecting the fantastic dress that I wore!  It was a sea foam slip with a delicate lace wrap, very artsy and very beautiful! I had lots of complements on the dress, thanks so much Lois!

Miss America for TLPL

Becca, Susan and Bridgette at TLPL

Becca, Susan and Bridgette at TLPL

I will always remember Wednesday, November 20th as being a really crazy day!  Not crazy in a bad way, but just crazy in all ways that it could be!  I started the day out with the Cary Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors meeting at 8am and by 8pm I was DEAD…literally, but also came back to life.  So keep reading.  It gets good.  The Triangle Ladies Power Lunch hosted their FINAL luncheon for the 2013 year.  Years ago the TLPL decided that December was just TOO BUSY to try to squeeze in a networking lunch, so in November, we meet, network and call it QUITS for the rest of the year!  I was pleased to have one of our Smith & Smith, CPA clients, Bridgette Bordonaro, Owner of Beautimous Beads, a bead boutique & jewelry store in downtown Cary, with me as my expo guest.

I gave Bridgette our Smith & Smith, CPA expo table for her to use for her jewelry and other goodies.  Her items looked so lovely and caught the attention of many ladies as they arrived.  I also had Alicia with me from the office and our dear friend & referral partner, Susan Pruskin.   The speaker was Susan Gravely, Chairman and CEO for Vietri!   If you don’t know Vietri, well…you should!  It is “Irresistibly Italian” Tablewear & Entertaining, Home Décor, Garden, Gifts & Occasions pottery that is ALL hand painted and hand made right from Italy!  Susan shared her story of growing up in a family with many guests from around the world in their home (her father was in tobacco trade) and she started the company with her mom and her sister years ago as a result of trip to Italy.  Her story was so heartwarming and inspiriting!  Several ladies at my table own Vietri pieces and were emotional during her story!  Great way to close out the TLPL year!

Smith & Smith, CPA at Killing for the Crown

Now, about my death…WBON of Cary hosted their FIRST Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser last night…Killing for the Crown.  This event was held in lieu of a Silent Auction.  This was a FIRST for many of us and overall, it went really well.  Our theme was the Miss America Pre-Pageant party and all of the Pageant State Representatives had some serious issues (and closet secrets that they didn’t want to have exposed!)  Smith & Smith, CPA was proud to be a Table Sponsor and our whole office went, including Cam’s wife, Brooke and Alicia with her mom, Linda.

Daddy Big Bucks and Miss Tina Texas

Daddy Big Bucks and Miss Tina Texas

The event was held at Bien Venue in Apex (a cool place) and the food was delicious, along with a cash bar and yummy desserts!  Blake played the role of Daddy Big Bucks, a wealthy Oil Tycoon and father to Miss Tina Texas and Miss Natalie New Mexico.  Turns out that I was the role of Miss Tina Texas (who just so happened to be HATED…really envied, by the other State Contestants because I was a “Sure Win, and a “favorite among the judges”).   My good friend, Heather Seifried, was Miss Natalie New Mexico and my half-sister.  Several other WBON ladies had major roles and the night unfolded with me being murdered…with poisonous breath mints…by Miss…well, I hate to give it away, but it was another State Contestant!  Our office had a fun time and Blake played the BEST Daddy Big Bucks ever!   Congrats to WBON of Cary for pulling off this fun and UNIQUE event!  It’s nice to be alive again today…and to be loved.  I’m not so sure I liked playing a character that was hated by many…..Thanks to Lois Cozart, owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Cary and downtown Apex for dressing me for both events!  The orange dress won lots of comments at the TLPL luncheon!  Shop there and tell them you read Beccasblog.com to get 10% off your purchase!
