Superpower for Habitat for Humanity

Superheros for the GRCVB

Superheros for the GRCVB

So tell me…what goes together better than superheroes and Habitat for Humanity?  Nothing really, right?  Last Thursday I had a wonderful encounter with both SUPERHEROES and Habitat for Humanity and it was an experience like no other!  The superhero part happened during the Cary Chamber Business of Women luncheon.  The speaker was Malinda Harrell of the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Her topic was “Raleigh is No Smallville” and she described herself as a SUPERHERO with the superhero power of being a “CONNECTOR”.  She was so funny and very entertaining.  She entertained the group of Cary Chamber ladies with a presentation on how the GRCVB works to bring conferences and groups to Wake County for all types of events and purposes. Here is a picture of Malinda, me, Dr. Heather Sefried and Susan Pruskin after the luncheon…and yes…Dr. Sefried is indeed wearing Malinda’s Superhero blue cape!

Thursday evening was a wonderful inaugural event for Habitat for Humanity called “Passport to Habitat Home Tour & Party of Western Wake”.  I was invited earlier this year to join this planning committee by Chad Griffith (a strong referral partner for Smith & Smith, CPA).   Our committee worked together to make this very unique and creative event happen, all from an idea to reality in just a few months!  The goal was to bring awareness about Habitat for Humanity home builds going on in Western Wake County.

The bus tours included a visit to Wickham Place neighborhood of Cary (a Habitat community).  We were invited to tour several of the homes and talk with the homeowners.  I really enjoyed the tour!  The party was after the tour was held at the Cary ReStore (a place that sells gently used and new building supplies & materials).  We had tons of great food, live music, a creative photo booth, and donation wine baskets that were raffled off as prizes.  I really enjoyed working on this event, made some fun friends along the way, picked up some clients for Smith & Smith, CPA and deepened my love for Habitat for Humanity.  I’d like to personally thank the committee Co-Chairs, Karen Swoboda and Michelle Pavliv for their hard work and leadership!  Thanks also to Chad for getting me involved!  Looking forward to the event next year!

And on a personal shout-out…thanks to Debra Ketcham of Nirvelli Day Spa for the most amazing mani/pedi!  Debra took awesome care of me (my toes and nails to be exact) and I enjoyed the time with her relaxing and talking about all things in life!  Check out my toes (yes, I know they are tiny and plump!)  Debra is great and Nirvelli Day Spa is owned by my dear friend, Dr. Heather Sefried (wearing the superhero cape up top) and her husband, Dave.  Check them out in Cary!  They offer all kinds of wonderful services!  And as always, thanks to My Girlfriend’s Closet of downtown Cary & downtown Apex for the lovely tops!  Great SPRING shirts and dresses at both locations!!!!!!
