Yummy Eats of ALL Kinds!

Life Experiences Brownies!

Life Experiences Brownies!

Now, if you have been reading my blog for a while, you will know that around here at Smith & Smith, CPA, we like to EAT!  After all, good food brings us together and Thanksgiving IS NEXT WEEK (slight panic….).  So let’s get right to the food talk…yesterday was the November Triangle Ladies Power Luncheon.  This is a women’s networking group that Smith & Smith, CPA has been proud to sponsor for several years.   As a GOLD SPONSOR, we get a large display table near the entrance and each month I take along guests with me for our RSVP table.  I usually try to include referral partners and clients in the mix and use our display table as a way to highlight clients & groups that we support.  So for the month of November, I decided to take along a delicious plate of brownies made in the bakery of Life Experiences.  I’m happy to be a Board Member for Life Experiences and I honestly believe that they have the BEST brownies on the PLANET!

So I took a huge platter, plus a ton of catering & bakery menus with me to hand out.  They were a HIT with the ladies and many thanks to Carrie Peele, Founder of The Triangle Ladies Power Lunch, for letting me make an announcement about Life Experiences from the podium.  I encouraged everyone to consider Life Experiences for any of their catering and baking needs during the holidays.  Many thanks to the sweet friends at my table, Alicia, Heather, Shelli, Marla and Amy for helping with the brownies too!

Last week one of our Financial Advisor referral partners, Tony Delauney, of Ameriprise Financial Services, stopped by the office to bring by lunch…yummy sub sandwiches!  Tony has been a solid referral partner to Smith & Smith, CPA for many years and is preparing to get more involved in the Cary-area market.  We enjoyed having Tony over for lunch as he shared his plans and goals for the 2015 year and wants to include Smith & Smith, CPA in some financial talks.  Sounds like a good game plan to us!  As you can see, Tony left our office all decked out in Smith & Smith, CPA gear too.  Nice lookin’ cooler and tailgate chair you got there!

And finally a DELICIOUS strawberry SHOUT-OUT to our client, Papa Spuds!  The farm to fork delivery service, owned by Rob Meyer, works hard to bring fresh food grown right here in North Carolina to your doorstep.   Since 2008 they have been expanding their network of local growers and food artisans and are proud to offer over 200 food products a week!  Thanks to Rob for stopping by our office and bringing these delicious WINTER BERRIES, from Lewis Nursery and Farms in Rocky Point, NC.  The winter berries are grown in a solar tunnel and are available November thru April.  Thanks Rob!  Consider Papa Spuds for fresh produce right here in North Carolina!

A Voice from Pat Nathan with The Triangle Ladies Power Lunch

Becca, Pat and Carrie

Becca, Pat and Carrie

When I hear the name, Pat Nathan, I automatically think about the great organization called Dress for Success of the Triangle.  I had the pleasure of meeting Pat Nathan several years ago and have heard her speak numerous times at different events around the Triangle.  Pat is the Founder and Past President for Dress for Success of the Triangle, a nonprofit that helps low-income women gain and maintain meaningful employment by providing them with professional working attire and accessories.

Becca and BJ Vendor Booth

Becca and BJ Vendor Booth

She spoke on Tuesday at the Triangle Ladies Power Luncheon, to a crowd of over 100 women.  Pat shared her personal story with the women in the room and really opened our eyes to her life, the struggles and success, and how she has overcome so much.  She is an inspiration to many simply by showing how she has used her life experiences to positively impact so many women around the world!  She said that “It is not about a life built on success but a life built on significance.”  She also challenged us to think about what we were ‘building’ in a life….a life of careers or a life of contributions.  Powerful food for thought!  The Triangle Ladies Power Lunch, hosted by Carrie Peele, is a quarterly event for ladies in and around the Triangle area.  This month featured about 20 vendors and was buzzing with lots of networking and activity.

Donations for Dress for Success

Donations for Dress for Success

Smith & Smith, CPA has been a sponsor for this event for about 3 years now and we enjoy being involved.  Our Gold Sponsorship included a RSVP table, a vendor booth and several seats at the luncheon.  I was pleased to have guests with me this month of Patty McEwen (Cary Chamber), Stacey Sherman (Smith & Smith, CPA client) and BJ Davis of Coach BJ.  I invited BJ to share my vendor booth table and she was promoting her upcoming Emerging Women Retreats (I’m going to the one in October, please join me!)  Many women also took time to clean out their closets and brought along items to be donated to Dress for Success.  It was really awesome to see all of the suits, jackets, dresses and accessories that are going to help other women in Wake County achieve their dreams!  Thanks so much to Lois Cozart and her team at My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Cary and downtown Apex, Lois picked out this metallic ruffle dress for me to wear and I had tons of compliments!  Shop MGC for some fabulous finds!

A Special Night with the Cary Chamber Awards 2014

Jennifer Robinson, Citizen of the Year 2014

Jennifer Robinson, Citizen of the Year 2014

Last night was the 2014 Cary Chamber Annual Awards Banquet.  It is an event that I look forward to attending each year and never miss!  Last night was the 52nd Annual Banquet and it was held at Prestonwood Country Club.  The evening began with a cocktail & social hour, such a fun time for Chamber members to mix and network together!  The event was SOLD OUT again, just like last year!  The keynote speaker was Sharon Decker, North Carolina Department of Commerce Secretary.  I had the pleasure of hearing Mrs. Decker speak earlier this year to the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch so I was very excited to get to hear her speak again, she has such charm and charisma!

Becca, Diane and Carrie, friends on the BOD

Becca, Diane and Carrie, friends on the Cary Chamber BOD

This was my last event to serve on the Cary Chamber Board of Directors and I was honored to hand out the Ambassador of the Year Award.  This award is so special as it is voted on by the fellow Cary Chamber Ambassadors and really recognizes a person who has worked hard and given so much of their time and energy to the Cary Chamber events.   The 2014 Ambassador of the Year Award for the Cary Chamber was presented to Brad Simmons, of Allen Tate Realtors at SearstoneCongrats Brad!  Several other specials award were given out during the evening, including Business of the Year to The Umstead Hotel (congrats to my friend Carrie who works there) and also Citizen of the Year, Cary Town Council Member, Jennifer Robinson!

Brad, Ambassador of the Year

There was a surprise special recognition award presented by Brian Reid at the end of the evening to the 3 guys who started the FIRST Rotary Club in Cary 50 years ago!  I loved seeing Dick, Ralph and Jerry come to the stage and hear them all three speak briefly about Rotary in Cary and how it got started and how much it has GROWN and FLOURISHED in Cary in 50 years!  We’ve been celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Rotary in Cary since August 1st and the celebration continues!  At the end of the evening, Frank Shell, Chair of the Board of the Directors for the 2013-2014 year passed the gravel to the Incoming Chair, David Booth of Wells Fargo Bank.  Frank also called up the members of the Class of 2011-2014 Cary Chamber Board of Directors who were ending their term and presented each one of them with a Jerry Miller framed sketch of the Cary Chamber grounds.  I was part of this retiring class and I’ve already got my frame hanging proudly in my office!

Rotary in Cary for 50 years!

Rotary in Cary for 50 years!

Many thanks to the Cary Chamber staff for ALL of the hard work they do for the Cary Community!  Cary would NOT be what it is today without such a thriving and active Chamber of Commerce!  Thank you also to Lois Cozart, owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet, for dressing me in the long red one-shoulder dress for the event last night. I had a lot of compliments on the dress and encourage everyone to shop LOCAL, especially with other Cary Chamber members like My Girlfriend’s Closet!   MGC is having their PRIVATE Summer Clearance SALE this Sunday, September 7th at the downtown Cary location from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.  All Summer Clearance Fashions will be marked $1.00 to $10.00!  They will also be offering 10% off the entire store which features their NEW Fall season merchandise!  And remember to stop by their other store downtown Cary, MGC-Ooh La La and get 15% off all furniture now through Sunday September 6th.  Please mention that you read about the SUMMER CLEARANCE SALE in Beccasblog.com!

Triangle Ladies Networking Luncheon

Ladies Networking Luncheon with Beth Wood

Ladies Networking Luncheon with Beth Wood

Today was the Triangle Ladies Power Luncheon, one of the BEST ladies networking events in the Triangle area!  It was so much fun to see everyone as the luncheon has moved to QUARTERLY for the 2014 year so the last time we had a meeting was in March!   Smith & Smith, CPA is proud to be a GOLD Sponsor for this ladies networking luncheon, and part of being a GOLD sponsor means we get 4 guest seats, a VIP lunch table, a vendor table in a prime location, mention on the website & emails, plus a shout-out from the podium by Carrie Peele (Founder of TLPL and Blue Diamond Limo).   Trevor and Alicia went with me from our office and Susan Pruskin of Susan Pruskin Consulting and Maura Silverman of TAP Unlimited were also our guests today.

Maura and Becca

Maura and Becca

Maura’s signature event with TAP Unlimited is this Friday night and she was very excited to share the news with other ladies at the networking luncheon.  We had our vendor table set-up with the Las Vegas Jackpot Machine (thanks to Beth Donnor of Diversified Planning for letting us borrow it) and as ladies stopped by our table they got to play around or two on the slot machine as we encouraged them to “Not Gamble with Accounting & Taxes”.   The ladies networking luncheon speaker was Billie Redmond, CEO for TradeMark Properties.  Billie shared her story of being a top leader in the predominately male world of commercial real estate.  Her company is 30 years old and has been very successful over the years.  She talked about keeping things in perspective and about a book she read a few years ago and changed her outlook on life and business.  I enjoyed hearing her speak.   I was happy to have Trevor there with me to experience a different type of marketing & networking event.  Trevor is our Summer Intern from Appalachian State and is planning to major in Accounting and Marketing.

WBON of Cary

WBON of Cary

I had the pleasure of introducing him to Beth Wood, CPA and North Carolina State Auditor after the meeting. WBON of Cary was also there as a Silver Sponsor for the 2014 year and were busy promoting their upcoming Summer Social on July 15th at Patrick Jane’s Pizza in Cary (beside of Trader Joes).  They had a very creative table and marketing technique today!   I look forward to the next Triangle Ladies Networking Luncheon that will be held on September 9th with the Founder of Dress for Success, Pat Nathan, as the guest speaker!  Thank you so much to Lois Cozart, Owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Cary and downtown Apex, for dressing me for the ladies networking luncheon in the Hana Cap-Sleeve Colorblock White & Yellow Kate Spade dress.  I had SO many compliments on the bright yellow and encouraged them all to check out the summer dresses, shoes and fabulous accessories at MGC!!

Shopping Local and Supporting Local!

ShopLocalRaleigh Final Friday Social

ShopLocalRaleigh Final Friday Social

Last Friday I attended the ShopLocalRaleigh Final Friday Social that was hosted in downtown Raleigh at a children’s boutique store called Nuvonivo.  I LOVE the Final Friday Socials and always enjoy meeting other members of ShopLocalRaleigh and getting to visit their stores.  A son and mother team owns the store and they were so nice and very gracious to be able to host for the month of April.

With Kim Davis in ShopLocalRaleigh

They are doing a clothing drive for the nonprofit group, Note in the Pocket and were collecting gently used children’s garments in exchange for NuvoBUCKS!!!  If you donated 1 jacket or 3 garments you were eligible to receive a $5 voucher (up to a $25 limit).  Well, with 2 boys at home, I ALWAYS have coats & jackets that are ready to be passed on to other kids, so I took two huge bags of clothing for the donation drive.  I also LOVE Note in the Pocket, I met them a few years ago at the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch and have been involved with them through my Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club too.

Their Executive Director, Dallas, was at the Final Friday Social and shared their mission along with some of their upcoming events (Socks & Undie 5kRundie on Saturday May 10th).  The clothing drive is going to last until May 10th, make your donations at their store location (111 E. Hargett Street Raleigh NC).  I had a great time at the social and was happy to have my friend, Tia Coppus, of Bank of NC there for her first time with ShopLocalRaleigh.  After the social, I used my nuvoBUCKS to get a baby present for a family member, what a great store!  I am already looking forward to the ShopLocalRaleigh Final Friday Social at the end of May! ShopLocalRaleigh was also hosting a MAJOR event on Saturday…Brewgaloo (a local beer fest in downtown Raleigh that features local breweries and local food vendors/food trucks).  With the weather as nice as it was over the weekend…I am SURE Brewgaloo was a huge success!

After the social, Tia and I went over to the Southern Women’s Show at the NC State Fairgrounds.  I went to the show last year with Kim Davis and had a great time seeing friends and a few clients from Smith & Smith, CPA (The Cookie People had a VERY yummy display!)  The Southern Women’s Show comes once a year to this area and it’s a fun time with lots going on!  I made a few fun purchases and always enjoy seeing what’s ‘new’ on the market.  The event was FULL and lasted all weekend, so I am sure it was just as busy on Saturday and Sunday!

Go Pirates at SWS!

Thanks to Lois Cozart of My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Cary & downtown Apex for dressing me in the pink silk lace top, I wore it with skinny black jeans and it made for a perfect Friday social & networking & shopping day!  Stop by their store and tell them you read Beccasblog.com to get 10% off your purchase!

Welcome back Triangle Ladies and a Piece of Savannah!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch…the FIRST one for 2014!

Becca with Sharon Decker

Becca with Sharon Decker

This is an event that Smith & Smith, CPA is proud to sponsor and has recently moved to quarterly meetings for the 2014 year.  I had missed so many of my friends from this group (our last meeting was in November 2013!) Smith & Smith, CPA has been sponsoring this event for many years and I always enjoy having an expo table and being able to bring along 3 guests (perks of being a Gold Sponsor!!)  I always try to take along a client to share my expo booth space this time I took BJ Davis.  BJ is a Leadership Training and Team Development Coach.  She was very engaging with the attendees and I enjoyed her being there so much! I also took along Amy Gretenstein and Tia Coppus.  We had a wonderful lunch table (hosted by Smith & Smith, CPA) and the speaker was Sharon Allred Decker, NC Secretary for the Department of Commerce.  I honesty can say that she ranks up there with being on of my TOP FAVORITE speakers in the history of Triangle Ladies Power Lunch!  I didn’t really know what to expect from her talk but I found myself hanging on to every word!

Winner of the flowers from Coach BJ Davis!

Winner of the flowers from Coach BJ Davis!

She gave FOUR Tips that she has learned in her life: 1) You need to be open to Possibilities!  2) Be Still…we are killing ourselves with all of our ‘busyness’ and we need to stop saying YES to everything 3) Be Thankful…keep a “Thankful Journal” and write 4 things in it each night and 4) Quit Trying to Live a Balanced Life…life is a DANCE…so stop trying to balance and learn to dance.  Thanks so much to TLPL host, Carrie Peele and her team at Blue Diamond Limo for bringing Sharon Decker to speak and for a FANTASTIC TLPL 2014 Kick-off!  Next meeting is in June!  Thanks to Lois Cozart, owner at My Girlfriend’s Closet for dressing me in this lovely dress from the Cary store location!  It’s a dress from Talbots and I got tons of great compliments!  MGC is stocking up on great spring & summer dresses!  Shop there and mention Beccasblog to get 10% off your entire purchase!

Out on the town in Savannah

Out on the town in Savannah

I was able to sneak-off last weekend to Savannah with some of my girlfriends to celebrate a very special 40th birthday!  We had a total blast, loved Savannah and their St. Patty’s Celebration has been on my to-do list for years!  Thanks to my girls for a super fun weekend and cheers to all of the great people we met, the awesome laughs we shared and the memories & experiences that will keeping us talking for YEARS to come!  Certainly a trip to always remember for many reasons! I hope to go back again soon!

Just an FYI…less then 4 weeks to go before April 15th!

Holiday Cheer for All!

Kevin & Shelli Christmas Party 2013

Kevin & Shelli Christmas Party 2013

Last night Blake and I attended a really fun Christmas Party at the lovely Matthews House in downtown Cary.  The party was hosted by Kevin and Shelli Dallacqua.   Shelli is the Founder & President of Shelten Media, a full-service social media marketing company.  Kevin is the owner of a local car & auto body shop.  I met Shelli a few years ago through the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch and we’ve been friends ever since.  This was the first year for this Christmas party and we loved being included.

Funny Christmas photo fun

Funny Christmas photo fun

Shelli had lots of fun things going on in the room, from a 50/50 raffle (winner got half the money that ended up being $185!!) plus raffle tickets for over 15 auction items!  There was a full buffet for a sit-down dinner, plus a fun area of crazy Christmas/holiday photo props.  I had some fun picture taken with my friend Tammy Cordes and her hubby, Craig.  Blake and I bought several raffle tickets but ended the night not being a lucky winner, which we were okay with…but I really wanted those earrings that were donated by Kim Oestereich Smith & Smith, CPA donated one of our tailgate chairs and coolers.  There was even a 5 day cruise on the raffle table!  Our friend Suzy Saver and her hubby won the cruise!

Fun with friends

Fun with friends

It was fun to see so many wonderful friends, networking partners, business leaders and community supporters all together!  Shelli and Kevin were very gracious hosts and took time to greet everyone and kept the party moving.  Beth Wood, NC State Auditor, gave the invocation before dinner.  The food was really delicious, the Matthews House has a fabulous chef!!!  There was a huge dessert buffet and also a wine bar.  After dinner, Shelli introduced all of her staff and interns.

Shelten Media staff

She then took time to share her story of going to NCSU as a non-traditional student, being selected for an internship at Oxford, winning scholarships to attend, becoming introduced & exposed to social media while in Europe, coming back to USA and traveling across country working on a projects, and best of all, she shared about the encouragement and support she got along the way from one of her college professors.  She ended up giving him an award titled the “Shelten Media #WorldChanger Award”.   Our friends Heather and Dave Sefried ended up winning the 50/50 raffle at the end of the night (yea!!!).

TLPL Friends

TLPL Friends

The best part of the whole evening was the military family that was selected and being showered with Christmas presents that were brought by all of the guests.  Shelli had found this family through our friend Kathleen Volandt, President of Auroros. That was such a special part of the party to see all of the presents around the Christmas tree.  Shelli and Kevin gave each attendee two bottles of wine at the end of the night that had custom labels on them from Chatham Hill Winery.  Thanks again to Shelli and Kevin for being such gracious hosts and kind friends to all of us.  We enjoyed the night so much!  Thanks to Lois Cozart of My Girlfriends Closet for the beautiful black cocktail dress that I wore for the evening.  My Girlfriend’s Closet has a great selection of Holiday cocktail dresses and beautiful accessories!  Stop by there to shop and tell them that you read Beccasblog.com and get a 10% off discount on your next purchase.

Miss America for TLPL

Becca, Susan and Bridgette at TLPL

Becca, Susan and Bridgette at TLPL

I will always remember Wednesday, November 20th as being a really crazy day!  Not crazy in a bad way, but just crazy in all ways that it could be!  I started the day out with the Cary Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors meeting at 8am and by 8pm I was DEAD…literally, but also came back to life.  So keep reading.  It gets good.  The Triangle Ladies Power Lunch hosted their FINAL luncheon for the 2013 year.  Years ago the TLPL decided that December was just TOO BUSY to try to squeeze in a networking lunch, so in November, we meet, network and call it QUITS for the rest of the year!  I was pleased to have one of our Smith & Smith, CPA clients, Bridgette Bordonaro, Owner of Beautimous Beads, a bead boutique & jewelry store in downtown Cary, with me as my expo guest.

Bridgette of Beautimous Beads in downtown Cary

Bridgette of Beautimous Beads in downtown Cary

I gave Bridgette our Smith & Smith, CPA expo table for her to use for her jewelry and other goodies.  Her items looked so lovely and caught the attention of many ladies as they arrived.  I also had Alicia with me from the office and our dear friend & referral partner, Susan Pruskin.   The speaker was Susan Gravely, Chairman and CEO for Vietri!   If you don’t know Vietri, well…you should!  It is “Irresistibly Italian” Tablewear & Entertaining, Home Décor, Garden, Gifts & Occasions pottery that is ALL hand painted and hand made right from Italy!  Susan shared her story of growing up in a family with many guests from around the world in their home (her father was in tobacco trade) and she started the company with her mom and her sister years ago as a result of trip to Italy.  Her story was so heartwarming and inspiriting!  Several ladies at my table own Vietri pieces and were emotional during her story!  Great way to close out the TLPL year!

Smith & Smith, CPA at Killing for the Crown

Smith & Smith, CPA at Killing for the Crown

Now, about my death…WBON of Cary hosted their FIRST Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser last night…Killing for the Crown.  This event was held in lieu of a Silent Auction.  This was a FIRST for many of us and overall, it went really well.  Our theme was the Miss America Pre-Pageant party and all of the Pageant State Representatives had some serious issues (and closet secrets that they didn’t want to have exposed!)  Smith & Smith, CPA was proud to be a Table Sponsor and our whole office went, including Cam’s wife, Brooke and Alicia with her mom, Linda.

Daddy Big Bucks and Miss Tina Texas

Daddy Big Bucks and Miss Tina Texas

The event was held at Bien Venue in Apex (a cool place) and the food was delicious, along with a cash bar and yummy desserts!  Blake played the role of Daddy Big Bucks, a wealthy Oil Tycoon and father to Miss Tina Texas and Miss Natalie New Mexico.  Turns out that I was the role of Miss Tina Texas (who just so happened to be HATED…really envied, by the other State Contestants because I was a “Sure Win, and a “favorite among the judges”).   My good friend, Heather Seifried, was Miss Natalie New Mexico and my half-sister.  Several other WBON ladies had major roles and the night unfolded with me being murdered…with poisonous breath mints…by Miss…well, I hate to give it away, but it was another State Contestant!  Our office had a fun time and Blake played the BEST Daddy Big Bucks ever!   Congrats to WBON of Cary for pulling off this fun and UNIQUE event!  It’s nice to be alive again today…and to be loved.  I’m not so sure I liked playing a character that was hated by many…..Thanks to Lois Cozart, owner of My Girlfriend’s Closet in downtown Cary and downtown Apex for dressing me for both events!  The orange dress won lots of comments at the TLPL luncheon!  Shop there and tell them you read Beccasblog.com to get 10% off your purchase!

It’s a Mix & Match Friday

Becca and Ashley

Becca and Ashley

Happy Friday!  This blog post is gonna be crazy and kinda all over the place…a sort of mix & match from events this week.  So let’s get going!  On Monday, I met with a new friend, Ashley Culpepper, over at Orange Leaf frozen yogurt in Cary.  Ashley is an Account Executive with Mix 101.5 WRAL-FM and got my contact info through a co-worker who had attended a WBON meeting earlier this year.  I really enjoyed talking with Ashley and finding out more about her and her position with the radio station.  Turns out that we have a very similar target market and client base.  I’m looking forward to doing some client referrals with Ashley in the coming months.

Skirt party

Skirt party

Monday evening I went to my friend Susan Pruskin’s house for a SKIRT PARTY!  That’s right, a SKIRT PARTY!!  We met a really nice lady named Melani at the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch in September and we just went CRAZY over her skirts!  They come in all different sizes and colors/patterns.  She had full length maxi, A-line and pencil skirts.  Susan offered to have a skirt party at her house, so we invited a few friends to come over and have some delicious food, social time and skirt shopping time!  It was really fun, so thank you Susan for hosting!  I got a lovely long maxi and wore it on Tuesday night to our WBON Board Meeting…and two of my other friends from the skirt party also had their new maxi skirts on!  Here is a picture of me with Lisa Cotter and Elisa Roles wearing our new skirts!

With Halloween a few weeks away…our office has been getting into the season with some yummy Halloween treats!  Thanks to our friends and referral partner, Amy Gretenstein over at PrimePay Payroll for stopping by the office this week with a jack-o-lantern full of some really delicious Halloween candy!  Here is a picture of Cam holding the pumpkin, as he gets ready to pick out his favorite chocolate bars!  Thanks for thinking of us Amy and for stopping by to say hello!  We put the candy out in the front lobby to share with everyone who comes through…but you better come by soon as I’m not sure how long it will last!

Becca & Alicia

Becca & Alicia

This week on Wednesday was the October Triangle Ladies Power Luncheon.  The event was held at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh and my guests this month at the Smith & Smtih, CPA table were: Alicia Angell, Tia Coppus (Bank of NC) and Heidi Harris (Allen Tate Realtors).  Alicia went early with me to help work the Smith & Smith, CPA booth and we also had fun networking and meeting new friends.  This was our first event too with our new Smith & Smith, CPA tailgate chairs and coolers with the logo on them!  They were a  big hit!

The breast cancer survivor this time, the She-Ro, was actually a mom and her two daughters, Marla and Becky.  Their story was probably the most moving and emotional that I have ever heard!  My friend Tia knew the sisters and she was so excited to be there for their special highlight.  Becky writes a blog called Becky vs. Cancer.  It is a scream to read as she takes a very comical and in-your-face approach to hear cancer.   The speaker on Wednesday was Nanette Geiger and she shared with the group her CSI plan to action.

It’s the weekend!!  Whoo-hooo!  I’m off to the lovely mountains of Banner Elk & Boone for a girls-weekend with some friends.  Thanks to my awesome hubby, Blake, for taking care of the boys while I’m gone.  Love you Blake!

Triangle Ladies Power Lunch September Speaker

WBON at Triangle Ladies Power Lunch

WBON at Triangle Ladies Power Lunch

Yesterday was the September meeting of the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch.  I took along Alicia Angell (from our CPA office), Susan Pruskin (Susan Pruskin Consulting) and Jamie Glass (WakeTech) as my three guests.  We arrived early to get our Smith & Smith, CPA table set-up (thanks for your help ladies) and we also helped with the WBON of Cary booth that was right across from us.  WBON of Cary has their Annual Fall Mega-Networking Event coming up on October 9th and the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch was a great opportunity to market and share our event with other ladies in the area.

The speaker for September Triangle Ladies Power Lunch was Lynn Bardowski, the Million Dollar Party Girl.  Lynn shared her story of being a mom working for corporate America but knew there was something more fulfilling out there for her in life.  In the late 1980’s she started with the company, PartyLite and within 3 ½ years she had made her first million dollars.  Lynn talked about overcoming fear and obstacles, plus self-doubt and barriers along the way.  She gave an inspiring talk and I am sure she encouraged many ladies in the room.

Carrie Peele, founder of Triangle Ladies Power Lunch and owner of Blue Diamond Limo (also a client of Smith & Smith, CPA) was very gracious to allow me a few minutes during the meeting to make an announcement about the upcoming 2nd Annual GlobalRun4Water.  I was able to share with the crowd about the success of our event last year and all of the people/children we were able to help with clean water sources.  After the meeting I met a new friend from the Central Johnston Rotary Club and she took the water jug back with her to her club to get it filled-up with coins and dollars.  Thanks so much!  Thank you also to Lois Cozart at My Girlfriend’s Closet for getting me set earlier this week with a great Fall wardrobe!  They have all kinds of beautiful new boots, jackets and jeans in their stores and ready to wear!  Go by and check them out and tell them you read about them on Beccasblog.com!
