Grand Prix Spring Race Series

 Second Empire Grand Prix

Earlier this year (Jan-May 2011) I competed once again in the Second Empire Grand
Prix Spring 2011nRace Series
.  It is a series of eight different races, composed of six 5k races, a 10k race and a ½ marathon. Each race is unique and supports a different special cause/charity.  I committed to competing and completing the entire Spring Series this year and I did it! Even in the coldest of mornings and the hottest of afternoons, I still showed up and ran each race!

The ½ marathon was the biggest challenge for me, but I quickly found out that it is more mental than just physical!  Anyway, the race series ended and I placed 2nd in my age category!  Yea!  Just proves that you don’t have to be the fastest, you just have to show up to run and complete the race!  The owners (Kim and Rod) of Second Empire Restaurant, which is located in downtown Raleigh, rewarded all of the top finishers with a really nice lunch at the restaurant this past Saturday.  The food was delicious and it was fun to mix and mingle with the other runners.  They had a nice awards ceremony downstairs in the tavern and each of the winners received a very nice embroidered backpack from Brooks, Co. Here is a picture of me with Kim Reynolds.   Kim and Rod have become dear friends to me over the years.  They are supporters of our Rotary Pig Pickin’ and I love being part of their race series! Here’s to the Fall 2011 Second Empire Grand Prix!  See you at the finish line!
