What do you get when you put some of Raleigh’s top leading business women together in one room on a hot July day!?!  A room full of HOTTNESS of course!   The Triangle Ladies Power Lunch, coordinated and hosted by Carrie Peele of Blue Diamond Limo, has quickly become the monthly “not-to-miss-women-luncheon-event-of-the-Triangle”.  Carrie is a powerhouse and she really knows how to pull power, professionalism and productivity together!  Each month she gathers the top of the top and the best of the best together to hear a powerful speaker and to make dynamic connections.  Our CPA firm has been a proud sponsor of this luncheon for the past year and it has been a pleasure to be so involved with Carrie and her team.

Alice, Becca, Carrie and Penny

The July luncheon proved to be just as great and the only change was the location.  We’ve previously met at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC and what a great place to be!  However, since the Triangle Ladies Power Lunch reaches out to ALL ladies in the Triangle area, the luncheon will move around to different banquet facilities throughout the year in order to be accommodating to the entire audience.  For the month of July (and August-Sept) we are meeting at The Hilton Garden Inn (“Mansion on the Hill”) in Durham, NC.

I met some fabulous women during the open-shopping-hour and really enjoyed having Sarah Thacker of Thacker Law Firm, Shanna Middleton of Real-eStage and Heather Foust of Curb Appeal to Sold as my three guests.  Rebecca Antonelli of  The Center for Creative Marketing, was the luncheon speaker and spoke about her history of being a serial-entrepreneur.  As always, I enjoyed seeing Alice with RBC Bank  and Penny Lauricella of Pretty In Pink Foundation (a local non-profit organization that Triangle Ladies Power Lunch proudly supports as our ‘charity of choice’) at the luncheon

Thanks Carrie for such a HOT time on such a hot day in July!

 The CPA in Raleigh

We’ve all heard the childhood nursery rhyme of “Rub A Dub Dub”.   It talks about the famous trio of the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker.   Those three make a great team right?  They each handle a different area of expertise and they each do their job well.  Well when it comes to building a great team to represent your small business, which do you have on your team?   Have you ever thought about including a CPA in Raleigh as one of your team members?  Our CPA firm would recommend having a banker, a lawyer/attorney, and an accountant/CPA as your major team players.  When it comes to being experts and helping you make wise decisions about your small business needs, these three professionals would be able to provide immeasurable advice and recommendations along the way.

CPA in Raleigh

The CPA in Raleigh is missing!

Banker: select a bank that is small business focused and will be able to help you in all areas of banking (loans, checking, savings, credit card processing, etc.)

Lawyer/Attorney: select an attorney that is knowledgeable about the questions that arise for a small business owner and one that can provide assistance when it comes to legal matters that a business owner may face.

CPA/Accountant: select a CPA in Raleigh that is ready to help the small business owner be timely when it comes to making tax payments to the IRS and State Governments, as well as helping with suggestions for tax saving opportunities and one that is up to date on tax laws and the ever changing tax codes.

We could also recommend adding these other key players to your professional team of advisors: Financial Planner and Insurance Agent.

If you need a recommendation for any of the professionals, please feel free to give me a call or email me.  I’d be glad to recommend a few your way!   Now update your nursery rhyme from your preschool days!

This past Wednesday, Aug 3rd, was our first WBON of Cary meeting for the 2011-2012 year.  I am so honored to be serving the group as the President for this year.   We had a really great group of ladies in attendance and it was encouraging to see so many new faces and guests!  We rolled out our new speaker series entitled “Successful Strategies to Enrich the WHOLE Woman”.   We started the meeting as always with our powerful networking circles and moved into a delicious lunch served by the new chef at The Matthew’s House.  I started the meeting around noon and it was a pleasure to announce our Board Members as well as our Sponsors for the year.   Our speaker, Stephanie McDilda was very inspiring!  She gave a message about being UNSTOPABLE and each of us left the meeting encouraged and enlightened by Stephanie’s’ story.

Our biggest announcement of the meeting is that we are MOVING to a new location and a new meeting time starting in Sept.  We will now meet at Prestonwood Country Club on the 2nd Wednesday of the month; Sept. 14th will be our first meeting at Prestonwood.  Looking forward to it already!

Please click to see the WBON of Cary video below!  Todd and Heather Mohr of Web Cooking Classes put it together for us!

I’d also like to say a BIG THANKS to Alphagraphics of Cary for putting our program board together and for making it so professional looking!  Here is a picture of the board:

We love ribbon cuttings!  It’s a great way to welcome new businesses to the area and also a great way to help current businesses celebrate milestones (number of years in business, a new location, a new expansion, etc.)   Being a member of a local chamber of commerce is a great way to be invited to attend ribbon cutting ceremonies.  The Cary Chamber has been my ‘baby’ when it comes to chamber involvement, but we are also proud members of the Apex Chamber of Commerce.  Since Cam and his family live in Apex, he has really taken the opportunity to get involved and attend many of their Chamber events.

Cam recently attended the Ribbon Cutting for PC MedEvac, a computer tech company that has been around in this area for many years.  They wanted to celebrate their new location with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Apex Chamber.  I’ve known the owners, Matt and Theresa Carter, for several years and can give a personal testimony that they do excellent work and really live up to their logo of “no Geek Speak” when it comes to helping with computer issues.  Congrats to Matt and Theresa and CHEERS to the success of PC MedEvac!

If you are looking for a local CPA or accountant in the Raleigh or Cary area, I hope you will consider our CPA firm!  We are taking on new small business clients at this time and we’d love to serve you.  Please contact me for more information.

Thanks!

Silvia Hair Designs Salon in Cary, NC

There is one day that I really, really, really, really look forward to…for me it comes about every 6 to 8 weeks…it is my visit to Silvia Hair Designs Salon in Cary for my hair appointment with Silvia.  I’ve been a client of Silvia’s for nearly 5 years and not only is she very talented at what she does, but she’s also a wonderful friend and a small business client at our CPA firm in Cary.  I’ve told her for years that if I EVER win the lottery, I will hire her to fix my hair every morning (and I’m serious about that).   Here is a picture of her salon, I look forward to going because it’s in a great location and because it is so clean and refreshing (I also love looking through all of her celebrity gossip magazines).

And just incase you are interested in the latest Hollywood trend, a feather hair extension; you should call Silvia (919.469.0008) to book immediately!  She uses the Feather Locks brand and they are lovely!

Feather Locks

This is a service that they offer and it’s very popular among fashion-followers today!  Thanks Silvia for taking great care of me and my hair!  Go see Silvia and tell her that I sent you!

Do you know a local salon that is looking for a professional and reliable CPA to represent them?  Please send them to our CPA firm; I’d love to talk with them!

Blake and I just got back from a wonderful long weekend trip to Grand Cayman!  It was a trip that was sponsored by the Cary Chamber of commerce and was a reward for being a “top earner” in their 2010-2011 Membership Drive.  This also happened to be our 5th trip in a row (isn’t Blake a lucky guy??) and we are so happy to get to go again!  We traveled to the lovely Marriott Hotel located on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman, via American Airlines.  This was also my first time flying through the new Terminal 2 at RDU International Airport (sooooo nice!!!).  The trip was really nice and very relaxing!  We enjoyed visiting the Dolphin Cove at Morgan’s Harbor where we did “The Dolphin Swim” with a sweet dolphin named Pepe!  We had dinner one night at the Royal Palms Reef Grill and another dinner at Carlos and Martins Tex-Mex, both of which were delicious!  On our last night we hung out with the entire group down on the beach with 9 boxes of pizza (that was also for breakfast the next morning too!).

Congrats to the other Cary Chamber membership drive participants who worked hard to earn this trip!  We really enjoyed traveling with all of you!!!!!

Apex Chamber Business After Hours

Blake and Cam attended the Apex Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours last week.  The event was hosted at Bella Casa Clubhouse on Thursday, August 11th.  They enjoyed networking with all of the people in attendance and also met some new Apex Chamber members.   I found these great pictures to share from their Facebook page.  I have to rely on pictures to be taken by other people when I am not around to snap them myself!   Blake is in the picture with Bob Sides of Visual Advantage Signs and also with a new friend, David Newton of PrePaid Legal

We used Visual Advantage Signs last year to create our pull-up marketing banner and other expo materials.  I have received numerous compliments on how nice our items look!  We are looking forward to working with Bob Sides and Visual Advantage as a small business client at our CPA firm.

Autumn LaBarca of Doctor's Express

I was also happy to see one of my new friends, Autumn LaBarca in one of the pictures (and I LOVE that green paint color on the walls in the social room!).   Autumn works as the Director of Marketing for Doctor’s Express, owned by one of my WBON Board Members, Lisa Cotter.

If you know of a new Apex Chamber member who is looking for a CPA, please send them our way!  We enjoy working with Apex Chamber of Commerce members!

Dorcas Thrift Shop in Cary

Dorcas Thrift Shop

Howard Manning of Dorcas Thrift Shop and Becca at Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club

One of my favorite things about being in Rotary involves hearing inspiring speakers and programs each week.   This past week proved to be just exciting as we heard Howard Manning from Dorcas Thrift Shop in Cary talk about their program and upcoming changes.   Howard’s presentation to our Rotary Club (Cary-Kildaire Rotary) included the history of the Dorcas Store, the connection with Christian Community in Action, the lives that have been touched through their ministry/outreach and the future plans that have been put into place through their capital campaign.  I know Howard personally through the Cary Chamber Ambassador program, so I was very excited to hear him speak.   He brought along Deidre Jersey, the Capital Campaign Coordinator for Dorcas Thrift Shop.  Deidre shared a few words and some of her personal experiences with our Club too.  One of the biggest points that I remember Howard making is that Dorcas offers a ‘hand-up, not a hand-out’ to those in our community that are in need.  They don’t just provide people with the necessary items to get by (food, clothing, etc.) but they provide them with life skills and opportunities to help get back on their feet and start their lives moving again.

Dorcas Thrift Shop

Larry, Howard, Deidre and Rick

If you are looking for a local (truly a LOCAL) organization to support and get involved with, I urge you to check out the Dorcas Thrift Shop.  They sure could use your help!  Thank you Howard and Deidre for sharing with our Club!  We look forward to being a part of your continued growth and future plans.

Alison Krauss Concert Koka Booth August 2011

Alison Krauss Concert

Heather, Heather and Becca

Last week I ended up getting great tickets to see Alison Krauss in concert at Koka Booth in Cary.  We had talked about going to the concert in the weeks prior, but never got around to actually purchasing the tickets, so the FREE tix on Thursday (day of the show) came as a very nice surprise!  The weather was perfect, so was the location and the show.  You seriously just can’t go wrong with a concert at Koka Booth!  Our seats were at a VIP table very close to the stage and the whole atmosphere of the concert was very relaxed and laid back.  It was a totally perfect way to unwind from the world…all with the sweet tune of Alison Krauss’s voice and her band playing in the background.

I enjoyed the concert with Heather Swanner and Heather & Todd Mohr.  Also sneaked over to see my good friend Lorrie and her hubby & son Seth (who is the biggest music-lover in the world!!!!)  Lorrie and I stopped by the Dickey’s BBQ booth to say hello and snap a pic with the BIG YELLOW Dickeys’ BBQ Cups!

Lorrie and Becca and our giant yellow cups!

Oh how I love some sweet tea!!!

Koka Booth is a true gem in our community.  I’ve been to numerous events, movies, shows, festivals and community events at Koka Booth and I am always impressed with the facility.

What do you think?  Have you ever had Dickey’s BBQ?  Have you seen AK in concert before? What about Koka Booth, have you been to a show or event there?  Tell me, I want to know what you think!

 Fun, Food and Waverly Place!

I love my job!  Not only because I work with great guys but also because I get to meet, greet and EAT with lots of people too!  This week has certainly proven to be a full week of networking, marketing and EATING for me (thank goodness I have a membership at Life Time Fitness to stay in shape!!)

I met with two local bankers from BB&T on Tuesday, Linda Shirley (VP of Business Services Officer) and Bill Smith (Senior VP City Executive) to talk about business and client opportunities.  I treated them to lunch at one of my clients, Tangerine Café.  This was a first time for both of them at Tangerine Café (a well-kept YUMMY secret in the Cary area). I always order my food spicy, a level 4/5 stars on their ‘spicy chart’.  I’ll never forget the time I took another friend, Gabe Stepanic of CODA Financial, there and I ordered a 5/5 stars and I CRIED through my entire lunch with Gabe, it was good but SPICY!

We had our WBON Board meeting on Tuesday night at Stonewood Grill and Tavern.  Thanks to Heather Sefried of Nirvelli Day Spa, our WBON Secretary for this year, for selecting them for dinner and for pre-setting our Board meetings for the rest of the year at different eateries around town.

Waverly Place

Kids at Waverly Place Promenade

Wednesday night was a fun event in Cary held at the NEW Waverly Place, it was called “Preview the Promenade”.  I can’t believe how much work they have done up there!  The place looks amazing and I know our family is very excited about the new changes and opportunities that are coming to Cary from this renovation.  My kids loved the splash/playground the best.  GameTruck of the Triangle was also there with their HUGE gaming truck, check them out, they are a client and have hit the jackpot with a cool new business concept for this area!  We also stopped by the Chick-fil-a Waverly Place booth to spin the wheel and win a prize!   We go there nearly every Tuesday night for their “FAMILY NIGHT” where kids meals are only $.99.   My Rotary Club, Cary-Kildaire Rotary, will be the host for the Family Night on Oct. 11th.  Stop by and see us!

So tell me, have you ever been to Tangerine Café?  How about Stonewood Grill & Tavern?  I know Nirvellia Day Spa has a huge following in this area, what is your favorite service from them?  Did you attend the Preview the Promenade at Waverly?  Any other big Chick-fil-a Waverly Place fans out there besides me?
